If you ever find yourself in this situation, there are tons of choices for every letter of the alphabet in Liverpool (well, 'X' was a bit of a challenge - but we got there...).
What follows is your literal A to Z of Liverpool date night restaurants. We've done the hard work, all you have to worry about is picking one.
Alma De Cuba
If you’re looking for a stunning location to wow your date with, then Alma De Cuba is for you.
The restaurant is set in the magnificent conversion of the former St Peter's Catholic Church on Seel Street.
It offers an eclectic mix of Cuba, Hispanic and Latin American influences on the menu.
If you have tried Alma De Cuba, why not visit Amalia Italian Restaurant in Campbell Square or award winning The Art School on Sugnall Street.
Bacaro
Bacaro is a tapas style restaurant on Castle Street that boasts an Italian and Spanish influenced menu that features sharing plates and campari drinks.
There’s something for everyone on the menu including fish, meat, charcuterie, vegetables and salads and pizza.
Other notable restaurants include Bakchich Lebanese Restaurant on Bold Street and Bem Brasil on Hanover Street.
Cosy Club
The ‘quirky and eccentric’ casual dining restaurant is one of Liverpool ONE’s most popular recent additions.
Cosy Club can be found on Paradise Street, above the hustle and bustle of shoppers.
From hefty burgers, to tapas and gastropub style food, the menu features a wide range of dishes.
If you have already tried the Cosy Club, Copacabana Bar and Grill Liverpool in Queen Square or Castle Street townhouse on Castle Street may take your fancy.
Dia + Noche
Dia + Noche which translates from Spanish to ‘day and night’ is a new Bold Street restaurant opened in the former Miyagi.
The restaurant is run by the same team that owned Miyagi however, Dia + Noche is an all day venue open for Breakfast, brunch, lunch and tapas in the evening.
The venue will also host regular events and late night DJ sessions.
Alternatively, Restaurant and Food Hall, Delifonseca Dockside on Brunswick Quay, is perfect for a date.
Renowned across the city for its blackboard menu of ever-changing dishes, Delifonseca’s innovative recipes make the most of locally sourced fresh, seasonal ingredients.
Elif
Popular Turkish restaurant Elif on Bold Street describes itself as ‘the home of contemporary Turkish cuisine in Liverpool’.
Dishes on the menu include cold and hot mezes, kebabs, seafood and charcoal specials.
For Indian cuisine you can try eastZeast on Kings Dock opposite the Echo Arena and take a romantic ride on the Liverpool Wheel.
Fazenda
The Brazilian rodizio concept at Fazenda means that customers can eat as much as they’d like from the salad buffet and steaks and skewered meats that are carved at the table.
At Fazenda in Exchange Flags you control the service with double-sided cards, green signals the chefs to bring out the meat while red indicates a resting point.
Customers can display either side of the card during the meal.
For a more casual date, why not try Five Guys, there is now one in Liverpool ONE and Queens Square in the city centre.
Gusto
For a glamorous date, Gusto provides contemporary Italian cuisine in the stylish, dockside restaurant.
Also perfect for a cocktail, Gusto has a sophisticated bar area overlooking the waterfront and Tate Liverpool.
Alternatively, outside the city centre there is the Greek Taverna in Maghull and Waterloo.
Hanover Street Social
The award-winning Hanover Street Social, is an impressive but relaxed restaurant to enjoy a date night.
The extensive menu features dishes for every dietary requirement alongside an A La Carte menu, an express menu and cocktail menu.
If it’s a casual date night you’re looking for, then HUS might be for you.
The restaurant and bar on Tithebarn Street in the city centre, promises ‘no awkward formality or wondering whether you’re wearing the right shoes.’
Instead, diners can expect a well stocked bar, tank beer and restaurant for those who want a get together.
Izakaya
This intimate Castle Street restaurant is described as a Scouse version of a Japanese drinking den.
The menu is small but everything is made fresh and dishes include sushi, katsu curry, pork ramen and other ‘classic’ Japanese dishes - there’s also a vegan selection.
The cocktail menu also compliments the food on offer.
If you prefer Italian cuisine to Japanese, why not try Il Forno on Duke Street or the Italian Club on Bold Street.
Jamie’s Italian
On Paradise Street, Jamie’s Italian is the restaurant from celebrity chef Jamie Oliver.
The restaurant uses fresh, carefully sourced and seasonal ingredients to make rustic dishes.
As it is Jamie Oliver’s restaurant, there is no surprise that the menu has healthy and nutritional options including a vegetarian, vegan and gluten free range.
Kasbah Cafe Bazaar
Another Bold Street gem, is Kasbah, the North African restaurant that is decorated with stunning Moroccan furnishings.
Described as ‘excellent value for money’ there is a massive selection of hearty, authentic food.
If you have more of a sweet tooth, then Kaspa’s dessert restaurant on Crosshall Street is the place for you.
At Kaspa’s you can have dessert for your starter, main course and afters.
Lunya
Since opening in 2010, Lunya deli, restaurant and bar has won multiple awards including the Good Food Guide’s North West Restaurant of the Year for 2015 and 2016.
Lunya recently, moved venue a few units down to a bigger, more accessible premises on the corner of College Lane and Hanover Street.
Lucha Libre on Wood Street and Leaf of Bold Street are also two other great date venue options.
Mowgli
If you want to dine at award-winning Mowgli, you now have two venue options on Bold Street and Water Street.
The Indian street food restaurant has a two person sharing menu, perfect for a date night.
In keeping with the street food and small plates theme, Maray on Bold Street and Miyagi on Allerton Road are another two restaurants that are definitely worth a visit.
Nolita Cantina
Want to take your date to New York without the expensive plane ticket? Then Nolita Cantina on Bold Street is for you.
The low-key restaurant has an American themed menu and owners hope to offer customers the type of dining experience that is likened to delis and dive bars of New York.
Alternatively, NYL restaurant and bar on North John Street offers customers the more luxurious, vibrancy of New York.
Set in the stunning former Royal Insurance Building, NYL has a unique New York afternoon tea with three tiers of treats inspired by the Big Apple.
Oktopus
Oktopus is the new Hardman Street restaurant that food critics are crazy about.
After launching as an experimental pop-up in the Baltic Triangle, the small plates restaurant opened a permanent restaurant in the city centre in 2017.
Other restaurants that have been cemented in Liverpool’s restaurant scene are Olive on Castle Street, OH ME OH MY on Water Street.
Panoramic 34
Whether you want to impress your date with fine dining, a chic lunch or cocktails with a view, Panoramic 34 has something for everyone.
It’s one of the UK’s highest restaurants and with that impressive height comes fantastic views of Liverpool’s skyline.
The award-winning restaurant can be found on Brook Street.
P & D Deli on Tarleton Street can also impress you with its homemade gelato, if Panoramic isn’t to your taste.
The Quarter
Found in the beautiful Georgian Quarter of Liverpool on Falkner Street, The Quarter is an Italian inspired, independent restaurant.
It serves everything from breakfast to delicious cakes and everything in between.
Or if you’d like to treat your date to a romantic picnic, take them shopping in the deli to pick out their favourite sandwich and sweet treat.
Roski
Roski on Hardman Street could be the first restaurant to give Liverpool a Michelin star.
Michelin star chef and owner of the fine dining restaurant hopes that Roski can bag a star for Liverpool.
Roski has opened in the former site of Puschka restaurant and is a ticket only restaurant, meaning that customers pay before they dine.
If fine dining isn’t your thing and you’d much prefer an Indian, Remora on Hunter Street or Rumi By Bukhara on Mount Pleasant are fantastic alternatives.
Sapporo Teppanyaki
Sapporo Teppanyaki on Duke Street is not just a restaurant but a form of entertainment too.
In the restaurant theatrical chefs cook teppanyaki at diners’ tables, so customers are in for a show as well as some food.
Two other Castle Street restaurants can also offer up something different, Santa Maluco is perfect for your pizza needs and if you are more of a steak person, San Carlo can hit the spot.
Turtle Bay
Fancy a date on a tropical Caribbean beach? Turtle Bay might just be the closest you can get to that.
Liverpool has two of the spicy, Caribbean restaurants that are famed for their tasty authentic food.
The restaurant can be found on Hanover Street and Victoria Street.
Spicy food isn’t for everyone, so Trattoria 51 has something for everyone.
The Old Hall Street serves up a selection of authentic Italian dishes including pizza, pasta, steak and fish, all of which have been created with homegrown recipes.
UNI
UnI (pronounced You 'n' I) on Renshaw Street takes intimate dining to a whole other level, when dining in the Indian restaurant, customers sit in candle lit booths with curtains.
The restaurant has been open since 1970 and you know what they say, if it’s not broke, don’t try and fix it.
UnI prides itself on authentic Indian cuisine.
Veeno
Sitting high on TripAdvisor is Veeno on Castle Street.
The tapas and wine bar has impressive ratings on the review website with over 80% of customers giving them the highest accolade, five stars.
Set inside a listed building it’s an ‘intimate and relaxing hideaway’ from Liverpool city centre.
For another ‘V’ offering, Vincent on Exchange Flags, just down the street from Veeno is another restaurant with high ratings.
Wreckfish
The Slater Street restaurant opened in Liverpool after an impressive crowdfunding campaign that broke records.
Chef owner, Gary Usher, broke crowdfunding records earlier this year by raising more than £200,000 to open the restaurant in its Liverpool city centre home on Slater Street.
Other restaurants owned by Gary Usher include the highly commended Sticky Walnut in Chester, Burnt Truffle in Heswall and Hispi in Manchester.
eX Directory
Due to the lack of restaurants beginning with X in Liverpool, Ex Directory, Liverpool secret bar will have to step in.
The bar that is only accessible by entering a passcode into a secret phone box serves afternoon tea and plenty of cocktails.
If you manage to find the code to the bar you could impress your date with exclusive access to the hidden venue.
Yukti
Liverpool’s top rated Yutki on Prescot Road has recently opened a second venue in the city centre on Renshaw street.
Now, fans of the renowned restaurant can choose between the ‘art kitchen’ on Prescot road or Indian street fusion in the city centre.
For something a little different, Yard and Coop on Hanover Street serves up ‘proper’ buttermilk fried chicken with American style sides.
Zorbas
Last but certainly not least, is Zorbas on Leece Street.
Zorbas is a Greek restaurant in the city centre and a Liverpool institution.
Established in 1974 and still a family business, the restaurant offers a broad range of authentic Greek-Cypriot cuisine in a relaxed environment.
